How Much Does ezCater Charge Restaurants?

ezCater charges restaurants a 15% commission on Marketplace orders and 7% on catering orders placed through its Online Ordering on your own website, plus a 2.99% Payment Transaction Fee. Commission is charged on the food and your delivery fee, and the payment fee also covers tax. On a $500 catering order with a $30 delivery fee and $35 tax, ezCater keeps $96.39 on a Marketplace order and $53.99 through Online Ordering.

Worked example

What ezCater keeps on a $500 catering order

ezCater says its average order values are over $400, so a $500 office lunch is a normal ticket. The table holds one order steady: $500 of food, a $30 delivery fee you set, and $35 of sales tax. Only the channel changes.

The fine print

Three details that push ezCater past 15%

  1. 1. Commission includes your delivery fee

ezCater applies commission to the meal subtotal plus the customer-facing delivery fee you set. A $30 delivery fee costs you $4.50 in Marketplace commission before a driver leaves the building.

  2. 2. The payment fee includes tax

The 2.99% Payment Transaction Fee is charged on food, delivery fee and tax. On the $500 example, $1.05 of the $16.89 payment fee is charged on the $35 of tax you never keep.

  3. 3. Check the rate on your statement

The written rate is 2.99%, but the order example image on the same help page shows a $14.41 payment fee on $523.99 of food, delivery and tax. That works out to 2.75%. On a $565 order the difference is $15.54 against $16.89, so compare the line on your own Financials tab.

Optional marketing

Preferred Partner and Rewards stack on every Marketplace order

ezCater sells placement and loyalty as a percentage of each order, not as a monthly ad budget. Once you opt in, the fee is charged on every Marketplace order, including orders from customers who already know you.

Preferred Partner Program: 2% to 20% of food

  • You pick the percentage. A higher percentage can lift your position in Marketplace search.
  • Charged on the food subtotal only, not on delivery fees or tax.
  • Requires a 4.0 star rating or better and at least one rated order.
  • Being phased out where Sponsored Listings is available.

Rewards: 2% to 5% of the subtotal

  • Customers typically earn 1 point per $1 of food. Your setting multiplies that, so 5% means 5x points.
  • Shows a rewards tag on your listing and in search filters.
  • Marketplace orders only. Online Ordering orders are never charged.
  • You can change your setting at any time in the Partner Portal.

In AZ, CO, DC, KS, MD, NM, OK, TX, VA, WV, MN, WI, NE, IA, MO and IL, ezCater also sells Sponsored Listings, a fee per order won within 28 days of an ad click, and Marketplace Promos, discounts you fund that come off your weekly payout.

Delivery

Dispatch: what ezCater's drivers cost a restaurant

Dispatch hands delivery to ezCater's network of catering drivers. The customer still pays the delivery fee you set, and ezCater charges you a separate Dispatch fee: a $30 minimum on orders up to $300, and 10% of the order subtotal above $300.

On-Demand: you cover the gap

On the $500 example, Dispatch is 10% of the subtotal, or $50. The customer paid your $30 delivery fee, so you cover the $20 difference. You also still pay 15% commission on that $30 delivery fee, which is $4.50.

Automatic: a flat delivery commission

When ezCater handles all your deliveries, it sets the customer's delivery fee to match the Dispatch fee. Commission on the delivery fee becomes a flat $3 on orders under $500 and $5 on orders of $500 or more. ezCater's own example, a $700 order with a $70 delivery fee, costs $5 for delivery.

Configured: check your statement

Configured Dispatch routes only orders that match your settings. ezCater's Dispatch article lists it under both the "you cover the difference" rule and the flat delivery commission rule, so confirm the lines on your payment breakdown.

Dispatch charges appear under misc. fees on your weekly payment breakdown, and customer tips on Dispatch orders go to the delivery provider, not to you.

Repeat clients

The real cost is the office that orders every week

Catering clients reorder: ezCater's own ad tool lets you target "existing" customers who ordered from your location in the last 90 days. The first order from a new office may be worth 15%, because ezCater found the buyer. The fiftieth order from the same office manager pays the same 15%. This is one $500 order a week from one client for a year.

ezCater Online Ordering: 7%, your customer list, and an equal-price rule

Online Ordering puts an "Order Catering" button on your own site that opens an ezCater-powered ordering flow branded for your restaurant. ezCater's article, dated August 20, 2026, lists what it costs and what it requires.

What you get

  • A 7% commission instead of 15%, on food and your delivery fee.
  • No fee to turn it on and no monthly subscription.
  • Orders land in the same Partner Portal as Marketplace orders.
  • Customer contact details and an exportable customer list.

What it still costs

  • The same 2.99% payment fee on food, delivery fee and tax.
  • Prices and fees must match your lowest online pricing for comparable catering.
  • An approved ezCater Marketplace menu is required before you start.
  • Standard Dispatch pricing if ezCater's drivers deliver.

The trade: you bring the customer from your own website, and ezCater still keeps 10.8% of the food on the $500 example. The catering ordering guide covers what a direct catering flow needs: lead times, minimums, scheduling and deposits.

The decision

When ezCater's 15% is worth paying, and when it is not

Worth it: the first order from a new office

  • ezCater found a buyer you could not reach yourself.
  • You have no catering ordering on your own site yet.
  • You need drivers for a large order and do not have them.
  • You are testing whether catering demand exists in your area.

Not worth it: the same client, every week

  • The office manager already knows your name and your menu.
  • You are paying Preferred Partner or Rewards on orders you would get anyway.
  • Your own drivers deliver, so the commission on your delivery fee buys nothing.
  • The client would order from your own site if it were easy to.

Treat ezCater the way you would a delivery app: keep the marketplace for discovery and move repeat business to a channel you own. The first-party vs third-party delivery guide walks through that split.

Frequently asked questions

How much does ezCater charge restaurants?

ezCater charges a 15% commission on Marketplace orders and a 7% commission on orders placed through its Online Ordering on your own website. Commission is charged on the meal subtotal plus the delivery fee you set. Every order also pays a 2.99% Payment Transaction Fee on the subtotal, delivery fee, and tax. There is no signup or monthly fee. On a $500 order with a $30 delivery fee and $35 tax, that is $96.39 on the Marketplace and $53.99 through Online Ordering. Rates were read from ezCater's partner help center on October 15, 2026.

What percentage does ezCater take from restaurants?

The headline rate is 15% on Marketplace orders, but the real share is higher because commission includes the delivery fee and the 2.99% payment fee includes tax. On a $500 Marketplace order with a $30 delivery fee and $35 tax, ezCater keeps $96.39, or 19.3% of the food. Optional Preferred Partner fees (2% to 20%) and Rewards (2% to 5%) are added on top when you opt in.

Does ezCater charge restaurants a monthly fee or a signup fee?

No. ezCater's partner help center says there are no signup fees or recurring monthly fees, and Online Ordering has no fee to enable it. You pay only on orders you accept: commission, the payment fee, and any optional marketing or Dispatch charges.

How does ezCater make money?

Mostly from restaurants. ezCater keeps a commission on each accepted order (15% Marketplace, 7% Online Ordering), a 2.99% Payment Transaction Fee for processing the customer's payment, optional marketing spend (Preferred Partner Program, Rewards, Sponsored Listings, Marketplace Promos), and Dispatch delivery fees when its drivers deliver. ezCater says it does not add service fees or menu markups to the customer's bill.

Does ezCater cost more for the customer?

ezCater says customers pay only food and beverage costs plus taxes and a delivery fee on ezCater, with no menu markups, service fees, or platform fees. Online Ordering also carries an equal-price rule: prices and fees there must match your lowest online pricing for comparable catering. The commission is the restaurant's cost, which is why many owners price catering menus with it in mind.

How much should you tip on an ezCater order?

ezCater's customer help center says tips are optional and gives a guideline of 10% for orders of $100 or more and 15% to 20% for smaller orders. Tips go to the restaurant in full. When ezCater's Dispatch drivers deliver, the tip goes to the delivery provider instead.

Is ezCater reputable for restaurants?

ezCater is a large, established platform. It says it works with over 140,000 restaurants, generated over $2.5 billion in Gross Bookings over the trailing twelve months, and Uber agreed on October 6, 2026 to buy it for $2.3 billion in cash. For a restaurant the practical checks are the fees in this guide and the payout schedule: weekly ACH deposits, processed every Tuesday for the previous Monday-to-Sunday week.

Who are ezCater's main competitors for restaurant catering orders?

For a restaurant, the alternatives are other ways to take large orders: ezCater's own Online Ordering at 7%, ChowNow's catering ordering at 5% per catering order, delivery marketplaces such as Uber Eats and DoorDash, and your own ordering site with no per-order commission. Uber, which is buying ezCater, says the deal brings catering to Uber Eats.

How much does catering for 25 people cost on ezCater?

ezCater's May 2025 data put the average ezCater order at $420 for an average headcount of 25, or about $16.80 a person. In October 2026 ezCater said its average order values are over $400. Your own menu prices set the real number; ezCater's fees come out of what the restaurant receives.

When does ezCater pay restaurants?

Weekly by ACH direct deposit. The billing cycle runs Monday to Sunday, payments are processed every Tuesday for the previous week's orders, and deposits typically arrive within 1 to 2 business days. Each payment's breakdown is in the Financials tab of the Partner Portal.

Does ezCater take a cut of tips?

No. ezCater passes voluntary tips to the restaurant in full and charges neither commission nor the payment fee on them. The exception is Dispatch: when ezCater's drivers deliver, tips go to the delivery provider.

Will ezCater's fees change after Uber buys it?

The October 6, 2026 announcement says Uber agreed to acquire ezCater for $2.3 billion and expects to close in the coming months, subject to regulatory approvals. It does not mention changes to restaurant fees. The rates in this guide are the ones ezCater's help center lists today, so re-check them after the deal closes.

What is ezCater's cancellation fee?

ezCater's customer help center lists a standard 25% fee for orders canceled within 24 hours of delivery or pickup, and says individual restaurants may set their own fees or cutoff times. Orders a restaurant has not accepted yet can be canceled without a fee.

How much does DoorDash take from restaurants per order?

DoorDash lists 15% delivery commission on Basic, 25% on Plus, and 30% on Premier, with pickup at 6%, per its merchant pricing page as checked on September 5, 2026. That is everyday delivery; ezCater is built for large, scheduled catering orders at 15% plus 2.99%. The full DoorDash breakdown is in Orderitto's DoorDash fee guide.
