How Much Does Grubhub Charge Restaurants?

Grubhub charges restaurants a 5%, 15% or 20% marketing commission on each order, depending on the plan. When Grubhub's drivers deliver, a delivery fee starting at 10% is added. Card processing is charged on top: $0.30 plus 3.05% per order in Grubhub's own calculator. On a $35 delivery order on Plus, you keep $24.88.

Grubhub plans

Grubhub fees by plan, checked October 17, 2026

Grubhub sells three Marketplace plans. Each charges a marketing commission on every order that comes through the Grubhub and Seamless apps. The figures are read from Grubhub's pricing page, last updated by Grubhub on April 7, 2026. Grubhub notes that pricing in select markets may differ and that local laws can lower it.

The “with Grubhub drivers” column uses the 10% starting delivery fee. The top plan is labelled All-access on the plan cards and Premium in the same page's fine print. Grubhub's footnote limits the ad credit to Plus or Premium merchants, although the Basic card lists it too. Older Grubhub blog posts from 2022 still show different plan prices. Use the current pricing page and your own agreement.

What Grubhub says

The pricing page footnote reads “Does not include payment processing fees.” Grubhub's profit calculator lists the processing fee as $0.30 plus 3.05%, covering card processing and fraud monitoring. Your exact rate is set in your Marketplace Agreement.

Why it matters

On a $35 order, processing is $1.37, about 3.9 points on top of the plan. Basic with Grubhub drivers is 15% on paper and 18.9% in practice. DoorDash and Uber Eats state that card processing is inside their commission, so compare the totals, not the headline percentages.

Grubhub vs DoorDash vs Uber Eats

Which delivery app costs a restaurant less?

A $35 delivery order handled by each app's own drivers, processing included. DoorDash figures were read from DoorDash's merchant pricing on September 5, 2026. Uber Eats figures were read from Uber Eats merchant pricing on October 3, 2026. Grubhub figures were read on October 17, 2026.

With each app's own drivers, Grubhub costs more than DoorDash at every tier once processing is counted, and more than Uber Eats on the middle and top plans. Uber Eats Lite is the dearest entry plan, but drops to 15% in New Jersey, New York City and 11 other listed markets. Grubhub is cheapest when you deliver yourself: Basic with your own driver is $3.12 on the same order, against the 15% Uber Eats lists for self-delivery.

A real month

300 orders a month: all on Grubhub, or regulars moved to your own site

300 orders at a $35 subtotal on Plus with Grubhub drivers. 200 come from people who found you on Grubhub. 100 come from regulars who already know your restaurant. Orderitto Starter is $149 a month after a $799 setup fee, from Orderitto's pricing page on October 17, 2026.

Moving 100 regulars saves $731 a month, or $7,973 in year one after the setup fee. The 100 direct orders still need delivery: your own driver, pickup, or a courier you pay per trip. That cost is not in the table.

Grubhub's contract: data, delivery and cancelling

From the Grubhub Merchant Terms, effective December 17, 2024, and Grubhub's FAQ, read October 17, 2026.

Grubhub owns the customer data

The terms say all Customer Data is “the sole and exclusive property” of Grubhub, and the restaurant may not use it for targeted marketing. The people who order from you on Grubhub are Grubhub's customers.

Grubhub sets the delivery fee

Grubhub has “the sole right to determine” the delivery fee, delivery area and availability. Its pricing page says delivery fees start at 10% and that pricing in select markets may differ.

Cancel on three days' notice

Either side can end the agreement for any reason on three days' written notice, and email counts. Grubhub's FAQ says there are no cancellation fees. Grubhub can also change the terms without prior notice.

Payouts and disputes

Grubhub pays by direct deposit weekly, twice a week or every two weeks, or by monthly check. Any pay, statement or commission dispute must be raised within 90 days of the payment.

Grubhub Direct

Grubhub's own commission-free website, and where it stops

Grubhub says eligible Marketplace restaurants can join Grubhub Direct with hosting, commission and delivery fees waived, paying only order processing. It includes access to your customer data. It is a fair option, and it is cheaper per order than any Marketplace plan.

Grubhub Direct fits when

You are staying on Grubhub Marketplace anyway and want a simple ordering website at no monthly cost. Your menu and business details import from your Grubhub account.

Your own platform fits when

You want the ordering site to stay yours if you leave Grubhub. You want a branded mobile app, loyalty and promo codes, or a Clover POS connection. Orderitto Pro includes those for $249 a month after a $1,299 setup fee.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Grubhub take from a restaurant?

Grubhub's pricing page, read October 17, 2026, lists three plans: Basic at a 5% marketing commission, Plus at 15% and All-access at 20%. When Grubhub's drivers deliver, a delivery fee starting at 10% is added. Payment processing is extra: Grubhub's own profit calculator uses $0.30 plus 3.05% per order. On a $35 delivery order on Plus, that is $10.12 in total fees.

Does Grubhub charge restaurants a monthly fee?

No. Grubhub lists no setup fee, no platform or maintenance fee and no cancellation fee for its Marketplace plans. The tablet is described as complimentary and must be returned in reasonably good condition when the agreement ends. You pay per order: the marketing commission, the delivery fee if Grubhub delivers, and order processing.

Does Grubhub charge restaurants for pickup orders?

Grubhub says pickup is available on every plan, but none of its current pages publishes a separate pickup commission. Ask for the pickup rate in writing before you sign, and check it on your first statement. Your rates are set in your own Marketplace Agreement, and Grubhub describes its marketing percentage as negotiable.

Is Grubhub cheaper than DoorDash or Uber Eats for a restaurant?

On the plan percentages, Grubhub looks cheapest: 5% on Basic. But Grubhub's processing fee is charged on top, while DoorDash and Uber Eats include card processing in their commission. On a $35 delivery order with each app's drivers, Grubhub Basic costs $6.62, DoorDash Basic $5.25 and Uber Eats Lite $7.00. DoorDash figures were read September 5, 2026 and Uber Eats figures October 3, 2026. If you deliver with your own staff, Grubhub Basic drops to $3.12 on the same order.

Did Grubhub's $0 fees on $50 orders change what restaurants pay?

No change to restaurant rates was found. Grubhub's own restaurant blog, posted February 9, 2026, says Grubhub is eating the diner delivery and service fees on restaurant orders over $50 and absorbing that cost. Restaurant Business reported the change on February 2, 2026. Neither Grubhub's restaurant pricing pages nor Restaurant Business or Nation's Restaurant News coverage report a change to restaurant commissions.

Who owns the customer data on Grubhub orders?

Grubhub does, on Marketplace orders. Grubhub's Merchant Terms, effective December 17, 2024, say all Customer Data is the sole and exclusive property of Grubhub and may not be used for targeted marketing. Grubhub Direct, its free website product for Marketplace restaurants, does include access to your customer data. Your own ordering site keeps the customer list yours.

What is Grubhub Direct and is it really free?

Grubhub Direct is Grubhub's commission-free ordering website. Grubhub says eligible Marketplace restaurants can join with hosting, commission and delivery fees waived, paying only order processing per order. It is a real option. The trade-off is that it sits inside your Grubhub account and contract, which either side can end on three days' notice.

How much should I mark up my Grubhub menu?

To net the same money as an order on your own site, the markup has to be larger than the fee: a 15% total fee needs a 17.6% markup, 25% needs 33.3%, and 30% needs 42.9%, before processing. Big markups cost orders and repeat customers, so most owners mark up partway and move regulars to a channel with no commission.

How do I pay Grubhub less without leaving it?

Deliver with your own staff where you can, since that removes the 10% delivery fee. Pick the plan by where your orders come from, not by the perks. And send customers who already know you to your own ordering site or app, where a $35 order costs about $1.32 in card processing instead of $10.12 on Plus with Grubhub drivers.

Keep Grubhub for new customers. Stop paying it on regulars.

Bring your last Grubhub statement. We will show which orders should stay on Grubhub and what moving your regulars to your own ordering site and app would save.
